Points for Premium Membership Giveaway *CLOSEDEdit 2
6pm EST has come and gone, so now this contest is closed. Any comments posted after this update (6:10pm EST) will not be counted for the contest.
You will receive a number, and that will be your number for the drawing, I will then link to another journal after the winners have been decided. Please be patient, this will take a while.
Since there has been such an overwhelming response to this giveaway, I am going to up the number of prizes to five. So now five lucky deviants will be able to get the points for a premium membership!
Since DeviantART decided to run its Buy One Get One Premium Membership promotion, I feel like being nice and handing out some PMs. However, since the BOGO deal only works if you buy the PM, I have to give away the points equivalent.
So..... since I have to give away points,

UPDATE: Selling LOTS of DevWear and DevGearTime for the first real update. Sorry that I keep spamming this journal, but I am still trying to make sales. So please deal with me for a while longer.
Its been a while since I launched this, and its been an overwhelming response. I am so thrilled and very very thankful. Everyone who has purchased devwear and/or helped to promote my sales are now officially super awesome and wonderful people in my life. Thanks to everyone, I'm proud to say the following.
I have paid off the remainder of my car insurance, saving myself $125 a month. I was debating for the first several days on paying down my credit card, but then I realized my balance for my insurance was low enough where I could pay it off, and I still had some money to pay off my card.
Any money that I get from this point on will go towards helping to pay off my Discover card. Credit cards are such double edge swords. It was what helped me through the worst of everything, but now I need to pay it down. I

Community Voices: What is a Daily Deviation?DDs: The deviantART definition
So, as the title says, What in the world IS a Daily Deviation (DD), anyway?
You know what deviantART says about it, right? Under :faq61: it says:
A small assortment of submissions are chosen each day by a select group of staff/volunteer members who wish to showcase an image which they found impressive or otherwise interesting enough to deserve being brought to the attention of the community-at-large.
That says nothing about a DD being a perfect specimen of art-- in fact, it doesn't even use the word "art" at all. Basically, as CVs, when we are giving a DD, we are doing so because we think the image is interesting and well-done and deserves your attention. It may be technically exquisite. It may be technically quite good but exceptionally thought-provoking. It may be exceedingly creative. It may be all of these things! Above all else, it should stand out in some way from others in that medium or gallery.
REMINDER Gallery Makeover Project JournalsGreetings Deviants!
As I have no doubt most of you have heard from Moonbeam13's journal, a lot of the galleries here on DeviantART are having a makeover. This largely consists of merging and getting rid of categories, but please take a read of the original journal for more details.
I am sure a lot of you have seen these gallery makeover journals floating around already, but here is a definitive list of all the journals so far. Please note that not all galleries are on this list, more may be added later. Also some of these links may be updated in future, and we'll be sure to update the link here as neccessary.
Please comment on the appropriate journals for each area if you have an opinion as to how each gallery can be updated. Remember the more opinions the better so share this journal, and lets get as much of the community involved as we can!
Undiscovered (Beta): Unearthing Quality ArtArt Under The Radar
Each day, hundreds of thousands of pieces of art are submitted to deviantART. As more and more artists join, create, and share their work, it becomes easy for high quality art to miss its chance to stand out and be seen.
Our new browse mode, Undiscovered, aims to bring new, high quality artwork to the foreground.
Finding Hidden Gems
Undiscovered focuses on recently submitted artwork that has not yet drawn attention or recognition at the levels of Popular or What's Hot browse modes. Using an algorithm that identifies patterns in community behavior when curating content, Undiscovered generates a browsing experience that draws attention to creative art and talented artists that may not receive the same level of attention from other browse modes.
Please keep in mind that the algorithm that powers Undiscovered is still new and we may make changes as it grows in use.
Discover New Art Daily
Because Undiscovered focuses on recently submitted artwork, the artwork displayed m
Traditional and Digital Mixed MediaFix That Miscat! is a series of articles aiming to help you distinguish between galleries that are commonly confused or abused in the category system here on deviantART. In this occasion we'll talk about Mixed Media, both Traditional and Digital.
Mixed Media within deviantArt refers to artwork in the making of which more than one medium has been employed. For example, a drawing that combines color pencils, watercolors and inks in the same canvas.
To be considered as Mixed Media, an artwork needs to combine 2 or more traditional or digital mediums. However a big misconception is that Mixed Media refers only to artworks combining digital AND traditional and this is not entirely true. The combination can also be between traditional mediums only or digital mediums only and in fact, when you intend to submit to this category, you'll
The New Sta.sh CommentsToday, we've upgraded Sta.sh comments, allowing you to easily add formatting and media to comments. You can now pull in images to your comments and then draw on those images using deviantART muro! This new feature, powered by Sta.sh Writer, makes collaboration in Sta.sh even better!
Easier Collaboration and Communication
We're happy to announce the new Sta.sh comments. As you're aware, Sta.sh Writer allows rich text editing of literature and journal deviations on deviantART, and we're happy to expand this functionality to more areas of the site.
The new Sta.sh comments allows multiple features and rich text editing to be employed on these comments. Not only does it improve on functionality that already exists in comments, it also pulls in the full power of the Sta.sh Writer application into your comments, completely revolutionizing creative communication on Sta.sh.

PE: Daily Deviations - The Myth and the LegendDaily Deviations, or DDs . . . for some deviants, receiving one is the epitome of awesomesauce in the deviantART world. For others, they are a nice way to show off the work of lesser-known artists. Still others treat them as a special way to bring attention to great art that exemplifies works being done by a particular gallery or community.
Perhaps because there are so many different ways of conceptualizing DDs, there are also many myths and misconceptions. I would like to address some of those myths by responding to the ones most frequently heard. Please note that these opinions are mine and reflect my experiences with the photomanipulation community, but perhaps they will be informative nevertheless.
Myth 1: DDs should always be perfect.
To many of us, the ideal Daily Deviation goes to an artist with amazing talent whose work draws you in and makes you think, "Wow, everyone needs to see this!" A DD should move you, inspire you, and provoke you to think, b
Improving your Art – what dA news can teach youWhat dA news can teach you about:
Improving your Art
The dA news platform is a great way to adress the community and teach them things about a wide range of topics, and of course to find information that you didn't even know you were looking for! Over time I've collected many great articles. This series will bring them together per topic so it's easy to find what you're looking for! Besides helping people find information they need, the aim of this series is also to promote quality on the news platform.
For this issue, I chose articles about Improving your Art. There may be more issues on this topic in the future
Articles may overlap on some areas, and may contain outdated info though I've tried to avoid this.
(For all you beta testers I included thumbs too! they're invisible to non-beta testers.)

Photography Troubleshooting: Dull Images on dA?After a long pause in which nobody seemed to have very many questions, we've got a very intriguing one which came up during the People & Portraits projecteducate week and it's something that has always played on my mind, and no doubt on yours too. Once again sine-out has provided a fantastic answer, so hopefully that will help somewhat in clearing this issue up. Have a question? Drop it on this article and we'll work on an answer!

The Coffee GodThe Coffee God behind the counter shuffles foot to foot, a dance of steam and espresso. Black painted fingernails, inch gauged ears and a gray striped sweatshirt, hood crooked on his back. There's a cigarette tucked behind one ear; it bobs and twitches with each step.
“Non-fat caramel latte,” he calls, just as he always does, part of a spell, part of a mantra, toneless (just a tuck at the end). I reach. He looks up.
The espresso maker hisses.
There's something like a grin, something like a spark, something like a shared secret linked eye to eye. When he passes over the drink (rough cardboard sleeve hot to the touch), he lingers. Our fingers brush, a shiver, a jolt, a ten-watt shock.
The Coffee God tilts his chin, shouts, “Hey, mind if I take my break now?”
and ducks around the counter without waiting for a reply.
He slips his cigarette between his lips without taking his eyes from mine. I follow him out the door.
Keep in Touch!
