:star:Manga/Anime Spotlight: Lyricanna:star:

Manga/Anime Spotlight is a weekly feature that highlights the different artists across the deviantART's Manga/Anime community, and is a portal to get to know a bit more about them and their works.

This week's feature is Lyricanna

:bulletgreen:1.) To start off, what is your favorite medium and tools to use?
In all honesty I am happy with just a pencil and an eraser. I like being able to give my ideas life with a simple medium. I also love to use a caligraphy pen and ink wells, but I have yet to actually buy a good caligraphy pen.

:bulletgreen:2.) When you draw, do you plan everything out first, or do you just see where the drawing takes you?
I have a general idea going into it - I want to draw this character doing this - but from there I just let myself go. I rarely do rough work since I find it hard to replicate

:bulletgreen:3.) On average, how long do you spend on a drawing?
Fully coloured with a background usually takes me 40-60 hours. A single character in a generic pose with a simple background is usually 10-20. I have a very shakey hand and always have to go slow to avoid a spasm.

:bulletgreen:4.) When did you first start drawing, and what made you start to draw in the manga/anime style?
I first started drawing in the 5th grade.  Every Friday, during French class, we were allowed a half an hour to do whatever we wished.  My friends and I started having Pokemon drawing competitions.  I also started drawing horses around that time, since I've always loved them.  In the summer between 7th and 8th grade I had gotten into watching more anime (Cyber 6, Yu-Gi-Oh, Beyblade, Medabots) than I had in the past and I also met SpiritLullaby through my cousin for the first time.  She was already drawing anime a lot and seeing her work made me really want to learn.  She's been my inspiration for years   I like the anime style since I always found it elegant.  I also love the variability in the media; there are just so many ways the style can go, from generic anime that everyone thinks of like Sailor Moon or Digimon to something more serious like the art from Fire Emblem or Witch Hunter Robin.

:bulletgreen:5.) What are your inspirations for drawing?
I'd say that I have 3 main inspirations.  My fiance SpiritLullaby for one; she's an endless pool of ideas and I have no idea what I'd be doing without her.  Various fandoms that I am a part of as well as existing art are also huge inspirations; they make me want to put a new spin on an established theme or situation.  The last one is music; so many songs have just given me the right mood to create, like Sirenia's Sirens o the Seven Seas did with my piece Seaside Meeting.

:bulletgreen:6.) Do you have any artists that you look up to?
My good friends fog-mire and FelesTacita always make me want to try new things.  I adore the artwork of Kaori Yuki as well; she knows how to use colour so well.  From a more historical view, I love Sandro Botticelli and John Waterhouse; they both do such amazing things with the human form.

:bulletgreen:7.) Out of the works in your gallery, what are your five favorite pieces?
It's hard to pick, since after leaving them for a while, I tend to see faults and become less satisfied.  All things considered, I think I will likely always love the following:

:bulletgreen:8.) Do you have any tips for young aspiring artists?
If, like me, critique can get you really riled up, walk away and do something you enjoy before replying to it; if you can stand back, you can learn something.  The other thing is practice is key; you can learn anything if you really dedicate yoursel to it.  And finally, never be afraid to ask for help; there are plenty of people that are willing to explain how they did something or give you tips if you're having trouble.  No one is born knowing exactly how to do something, we all have to learn and it's good if we can all help each other =)

:bulletgreen:9.) Are there any other types of art that enjoy?
I actually started off as a writer and I am an avid reader, so literature is high up there.  I love digital dolls and dolling, because I love the simplicity of MS Paint and working on something small.  I enjoy viewing most art and learning what I can about different styles; the act that so many people can create such different things is always amazing to me..

:bulletgreen:10.) Is there anything else that you would like to add?
Thank you so much for this opportunity and for everything that you do for the community
