:star:Manga/Anime Spotlight: Hiiragi-san:star:

Manga/Anime Spotlight is a weekly feature that highlights the different artists across the deviantART's Manga/Anime community, and is a portal to get to know a bit more about them and their works.

This week's feature is Hiiragi-san

:bulletgreen:1.) To start off, what is your favorite medium and tools to use?
Digital media is my favorite. It allows me to be as neat and precise as I want to be, plus I can easily undo my mistakes with just a few keystrokes :XD: And even though all the cool kids use Paint Tool SAI nowadays, I'm a committed Photoshop user.

:bulletgreen:2.) When you draw, do you plan everything out first, or do you just see where the drawing takes you?
I plan it all out first. Usually I will make a quick doodle so I can better visualize my idea, map out a character's proportions, try out different poses, etc. Once I am happy with all that, I put my plan into action and begin the actual drawing. ...It sounds so time-consuming when I type that all out :XD:

:bulletgreen:3.) On average, how long do you spend on a drawing?
Way. Too. Long. :dead: haha Actually, it can be anywhere from a couple days to two weeks. I'm very picky, so I may end up redoing or adjusting the same detail on a drawing several times before I'm satisfied with it. Also, time management has NEVER been my strong point. Just ask my husband :lmao:

:bulletgreen:4.) When did you first start drawing, and what made you start to draw in the manga/anime style?
I have been drawing ever since I was a small child. It wasn't until I was about 15-years-old that I began to draw anime though. At that time, anime on American TV was limited to pretty much Sailor Moon and Dragon Ball Z, but that was enough to get me interested in the art genre. I had always been into comic art, and I loved how slick and stylized anime was... I just had to try drawing it myself :dummy: Twelve years later, it is my primary art style and I don't foresee that changing :meow:

:bulletgreen:5.) What are your inspirations for drawing?
Mostly Danbooru-style anime imageboards (Gelbooru is my favorite by far ) Yes, a lot of the content is NSFW, but if you can get past that aspect, they are great places to find inspiration. I have discovered many new stylistic and coloring techniques simply by browsing these sites

I'm also heavily influenced by the supernatural. Anyone who looks at my gallery will see that the majority of my characters are anything but human :giggle:

:bulletgreen:6.) Do you have any artists that you look up to?
emperpep, demitasse-lover, sachsen, tickledpinky, Teh-Dave, jisuk, sakura-kindness, Kaizeru, and of course, Damaged927

:bulletgreen:7.) Out of the works in your gallery, what are your five favorite pieces?
Ooh good question.  Let's see... I pick these! :dummy:
.:Pleased To Eat You:. by Hiiragi-san .:PSG Reimu and Marisa:. by Hiiragi-san .:Kay Dash Oh En:. by Hiiragi-san .:third floor hallway:. by Hiiragi-san .:Team Moron:. by Hiiragi-san

:bulletgreen:8.) Do you have any tips for young aspiring artists?
Practice! Practice! Practice! It's so cliche, but true. No one becomes good at something simply because they want to be. If you want to get good at art, you'll have to work hard at it and practice often.

Also, if you are serious about your art, make sure your work reflects that. If you post drawings that are smudged, blurry, crooked, drawn on notebook paper, or in need of cropping, no one will take you or your art seriously. Take pride in your art. Present it in the neatest, cleanest way possible. After all, if it appears that you don't care about your art, you can't expect anyone else to care about it either

:bulletgreen:9.) Are there any other types of art that you enjoy?
Cartoons & Comics and Digital art mostly. As for other types of art I enjoy making that would be Artisan Crafts (mostly perler beads and small hair/clothing accessories) =D

:bulletgreen:10.) Is there anything else that you would like to add?
Art should always be fun! If you aren't having fun, then you're doing it wrong :XD:

`Miss-It-Girl is made of awesome

And so is this interview! :aww: I especially love the advice given on number 8. All of the time I see people posting photos of their artwork and saying, "Ugh, I hate this but I'm going to post it anyways!" If you're not happy with what you did.. then why post it to gain attention? Whatever the case, I think it's an important thing to remember
