:star:Manga/Anime Spotlight: deeJuusan:star:

Manga/Anime Spotlight is a weekly feature that highlights the different artists across the deviantART's Manga/Anime community, and is a portal to get to know a bit more about them and their works.

This week's feature is deeJuusan

:bulletgreen:1.) To start off, what is your favorite medium and tools to use?

I use anything that is convenient at the time and place I feel like drawing but I prefer and mostly use digital medium. The tools I use are; Macbook Pro 17" and Wacom Intuos3 A4 sized

:bulletgreen:2.) When you draw, do you plan everything out first, or do you just see where the drawing takes you?

My first step in anything, is visualizing. When I'm hit by an idea I always see it in my head first thing as a whole; perspective, camera angle, pose, etc. And that's how, as many of my watchers when I livestream, I rarely start a drawing with guidelines and stick figures, I just kind of copy it on paper from the big archive of details and observations I did over the years.
When I want to draw something new for the first time; a pose or a place, or is feeling uninspired, I try to look up references or just go back to basics using guidelines for anatomy and perspective and see where those lead me.

:bulletgreen:3.) On average, how long do you spend on a drawing?

Sketching takes the least amount of time for any piece coz I'd be fired up with inspiration and I just want to get it out of my head on paper. For illustrations; it takes me from 3 hours to 12 hours when detailed background is included.
And as a manga artist; a page takes me around 6-10 hours to finish, also depending on what kind of panels I have there.

:bulletgreen:4.) When did you first start drawing, and what made you start to draw in the manga/anime style?

As any other kid, I was fascinated by art and drawing, and I have drawings back from when I was 6 years old, colored and all so I must've started earlier or around that time.
World Master piece theater is what got me into manga/anime style. Back then I didn't even know the term "anime" and all was "cartoon" to me. I remember I used to record episodes of my favorite shows on an old VHS and spend hours pausing and copying my favorite scenes (haha)

:bulletgreen:5.) What are your inspirations for drawing?

Daily life. Everything and anything in life inspires me. A sappy as this might sound to some; there is beauty everywhere you look, even in a plastic bag  flying up in the sky through the clouds.
People, kids, nature, books and stories, the inner thoughts and feelings of humans and music are the what usually inspires me most.

:bulletgreen:6.) Do you have any artists that you look up to?

Ahhh of course!  What a long list;
As an illustrator I look up most at Makoto Shinkai. I was honored to meet him in 2008, and it was really inspiring to me on so many levels.

As a manga artist; I was first inspired by the creator of Kuroshitsuji because she's SO young and started her career when she was 22, which motivated me to sit down and take the thing seriously.
But what made it easy for me was; Sumomo Yumeka/Sahara Mizu who I'm greatly influenced by.
When I first looked at here pages; all the process of manga creating seemed easy for me.

From dA, the list is so long for I watch over 3000 artists; but I greatly admire;

:bulletgreen:7.) Out of the works in your gallery, what are your five favorite pieces?

My favorite work must be my webmanga; Grey-is coz its the latest and it's what I'm dedicating my life to.
I'm going to pick the chapter I like most of all that is released so far;

Also;

:bulletgreen:8.) Do you have any tips for young aspiring artists?

Don't be afraid to express your emotions through art. Being an artist is never easy but the road to become a good artist is like the process of a good drawing; develops from a rough sketch, needs time, effort and commitment to look/be good and it’s never finished. Though an art piece is abandoned instead of complete while the road shouldn’t be abandoned nor it can be complete.
Observe everything around you, light, details, people, etc
And grow the love in you for art so that you would be able to draw everyday without it being a tiring task. Drawing everyday, loving art, experimenting new techniques, loving art, observing, and loving art is the key to being a successful artist.
"An artist cannot fail; it is a success to be one.” - Charles Horton Cooley

:bulletgreen:9.) Are there any other types of art that enjoy?

Pixel Art and animation. I'd love to have the time to dedicate more for working on my skills in both mediums.

:bulletgreen:10.) Is there anything else that you would like to add?

I come from a country that anime/manga style is too fresh and hardly appreciated or considered art. And for a long time, my own family, besides mum, didn't really acknowledge my interest, but I kept holding on to it. Don't ever give up what you love for anyone or anything.
I found my way through internet and the amazing people at deviantART. You can too so keep going~

Last but not least; Thanks a lot for this interview opportunity, Nyiana-sama :tighthug:
Thanks everyone for reading this and all the support over the past 6 years :heart::heart::heart:

:love:
