Manga/Anime Spotlight: veroro
Manga/Anime Spotlight is a weekly feature that highlights the different artists across the deviantART's Manga/Anime community, and is a portal to get to know a bit more about them and their works.
This week's feature is veroro
1.) To start off, what is your favorite medium and tools to use?
I usually do the lines on paper, with a mechanical pencil. There's no particular reason, other than "I enjoy it" and "it's easier for me". I color everything in Photoshop though, as it allows me to experiment with color schemes and shading much easier than traditional medias.
2.) When you draw, do you plan everything out first, or do you just see where the drawing takes you?
It depends on what I'm trying to do. For serious pieces I will do a quick thumbnail, then sketch a full sized picture to get all the proportions right, and finally add real bodies on top of my stickmen. But sometimes it's fun to doodle without planning, and just see what comes out of it!
3.) On average, how long do you spend on a drawing?
Too long, ahah! I don't really keep track of time; I'm just having fun and the amount of time it takes doesn't really matter to me. Anyway I rarely do pictures in one sitting so it's hard to evaluate.
4.) When did you first start drawing, and what made you start to draw in the manga/anime style?
I was about 10 when I took some painting classes, and decided I liked to sketch my pieces more than actually paint them! From then I started to draw more "seriously" in my spare time. The style comes from how much I loved cartoons; the ones I used to watch when I began drawing more just happened to be "anime", so it stuck.
5.) What are your inspirations for drawing?
Nothing and everything, really! It could be an idea a friends threw out there, something that came to mind while I was daydreaming, a weird pattern on the floor... I find action movies and videogames particularly inspiring though, ahah!
6.) Do you have any artists that you look up to?
I don't really have names to give in particular. I like colorful and expressive pieces with a lot of movement. Or things that make me go "aaw". I don't watch a lot of artists, I just randomly browse DA.
7.) Out of the works in your gallery, what are your five favorite pieces?
Haaard one!
Mature Content
I like the ones where there's some sort of background.
Couples being cute/silly is always a win in my book ahah!
8.) Do you have any tips for young aspiring artists?
Have fun. Look up to other artists, but don't be jealous; learn from them instead of getting discouraged. Practice, practice, practice. Start with learning proper anatomy, perspective, color theory, etc. even if you want to draw cartoons. Do what I say, not what I do!
9.) Are there any other types of art that enjoy?
I like pretty sceneries, painted or photographed. I like more "cartoony" styles, as well as realism. I like, I like... pretty much anything that catches my eye. The type of art doesn't matter much.
10.) Is there anything else that you would like to add?
Art in general should be fun. Even if it's your current or future job. Any job should be fun, anyway.

June 28th, 2021. I'm nonbinary.
Yo. Its been a while. I accidentally skipped over my 17th anniversary on here. oops. Anyone that knows me, knows that I've played Kingdom Hearts since I was 12 years old, I'm gonna be 31 this year to put that in perspective. When I first played KH, Utada Hikaru's song Simple and Clean struck a cord with me. I loved it. A friend was able to get a burned CD of their songs all the way back in 2002/2003 and I've been drinking the Utada Jpop juice since. I adore their songs, and I can't tell you the amount of times I've cried listening to their music. Their most recent song, Pink Blood came out, and when I saw the video with closed captioning on, and I could understand all of the lyrics instead of picking out certain parts. I fucking cried. Pink Blood is basically an anthem at this point for me. It captures a lot of how I've been feeling for so long. And now, Utada has come out as being nonbinary. I was at work when I learned this, and for some reason had to stop myself from happy
Sweet 16!
So uh, I guess today, June 4th, 2020 marks my 16th anniversary on the site. Who knows where the time went. Now that my account is 16 and I am 29 going on 30, I can safely say that I've had this account for more than half of my life. That's a weird thing to think about. But yeah, seriously. I am an adult. I do adult things. I have a husband. And like, we are starting the process TODAY to buy a house. We reached out to a realtor who we will be talking with this evening about how to do the process. A HOUSE. LIKE, WHO DECIDED THAT I AM ADULT ENOUGH TO GET A HOUSE?! But yeah, wow .I've been here for 16 years. Geeeeeeeeeeeeez. I know that I really haven't been active much at all for several years now, but I still linger in the chats. Hm... some other updates maybe? Well, I'm currently playing Animal Crossing. Its June 27th on my island, which means today is the bug-off, and Flick is here. AND OMG FLICK IS THE MOST PRECIOUS DORK EVER, I LOVE HIM SO MUCH AND WILL DIE FOR HIM.
Getting Married Today!
So, today is September 22nd, 2018. Which means its time for this girl to get hitched! :noes: If you told the 14 year old me who first joined dA, they would've been slapped. *I* wouldn't get married, said teenage me. I aimed to be the worst kind of woman possible to be a giant "fuck you" to the system.
Oops.
That only somewhat happened.
At 5pm EST September 22nd, 2018, I will be married to the Derp of my life. Wish him luck!
30 more days!

Then I will go from Sam Normandin... to Sam Normandin. I literally just renewed all of my legal documents back in July, I am NOT changing them again. Besides, I like my name. I gotta finish up some of the wedding shit, come up with a seating plan, and kick some booty. Literally, I have an aunt who wants to bring her boyfriend, but he won't know until the day before the wedding if he'll make it. Um, I know my wedding is really informal and all, but this isn't a backyard bbq. That "maybe or maybe not" is $88 to me.
