My family and I spend Christmas somewhere different each year! Two years ago, we spent our Christmas on a cruise. This year, we are spending it in another country with all of my cousins and family members! My family really enjoys spending Christmas somewhere different each year.

My family celebrates Chanukah. Every night after we light the candles, we sing and spin around like dreidles, special tops. We have potato pancakes and jelly doughnuts and give/get presents.

Me and my family spend Christmas Eve at my Grandpa's and we always wait till 12:00am, at that time we go and see him uncover our baby Jesus in the Nativity scene we put up at home. We pray together and then proceed to open the presents. We do it that same way every year so I guess it's become a tradition for us :santa:

We spend a week preparing and everyone screaming at each other, so when the day finally comes we are all tired and celebrations end up being kind of the opposite of what they were supposed to be... :'S

In our family, it is tradition for me to fly to visit my father for christmas; every year, on december 17th. And after I arrive, we immediately go to Krystals (fastfood restaurant). And christmas morning, we have a barbaque and have hamburgers and hotdogs for breakfast, half of which we give to our dogs :iconmingplz:

And we buy a white mouse to feed our snake that evening.

Our tradition:
We have a little fountain thingamabobby that we never really use. On Christmas, we fill it with chocolate. Out comes chocolate, Mmm mmm mmm. Some of us dip our fingers or strawberries in the fountain and eat it, and some of us (like me) just stuff our whole face in and try to get as much chocolate as we can. In the night, we always leave the fountain running for Santa.
Another thing we like to do is we hide the presents all over the house and we try to find them.
lol that's it.

Hm basically the way the whole day happens each year (or at least until I moved out though since then there is some sort of other tradition so I guess I might mention both ^^)

Before I moved out I lived with granny and for Holidays or at weekends also my uncle was there.

So Christmas Eve (which ist the evening of the 24th in Germany) happened like this:

- In the morning and most time until early afternoon granny was occupied with preparing last things for dinner (like the table and stuff), presents or did some last minute haushold stuff.

- Then if not happened the vening before we all went to take a shower

- At 4 PM I went to church and participated as a singer at the organ in our anual nativity play

- At 6 PM when the play was over I went home and helped granny preparing the dinner (in this case what we actually would be eating)

- At approximately 6:30/7 PM we started with dinner - usually some sort of fancy little thing like a filled pastry or so and then afterwards the usual stuff for example the annual Christmas&New Year-only Hering Salad. Said Salad was a tradition ever since even my granny could remember - so it's pretty old ^^

- After dinner we washed the dishes and finally got to the present-part. When I was still a child I usually tried my new toys or went to see something special on TV. When I became older we usually sat down to have some cookies, maybe a glass of wine and talked about stuff and then went to our rooms to watch TV or occupy with something else.

- The next day we had lunch at our house with one of the brothers of my granny and after he left and after washing the dishes each one of us did their own stuff. When I was a kid we usually went down to my great granny for fetching my presents there.

- In the afternoon other relatives stopped by to either bring presents (when I was little) or to fetch prsents for their kids and to have some cake and coffee.

- The second day (26th) in the most usually happened the same way like the first just without having relatives over in the afternoon.

After I had moved out only a few things changed.

- I did no longer participate in the nativity play as I moved out of town.

- On the 24th I just do the same I would usually do until the time comes I have to pick up the father of my mothers boyfriend. With him I then drive to where my mum and her bf live and we have a little cake and coffee before in the evening havin something great for dinner (my mum can cook very well). Afterwards she puts the dishes into the dish washer and we give each other presents and have a cozy evening telling old stories and drinking some stuff - welll beside me since I have to drive. Later the bf's father and me drive back since he doesn't live far from my appartment.

- On the 25th I get up around 9 AM to prepare myself for driving to granny and experience most of the things already mentioned above.

Yeah...so far for the traditions...not very fancy - actually quite boring ^^

One evening, after the lights have been put I on the tree, we order Chinese takeout, turn off all the lights, except the Christmas lights, and eat our dinner by tree light.

Our family tradition, as silly as it is, is to just eat a bake-at-home pizza on Christmas day, so we don't have to cook and do anything on Christmas except for enjoying the day ^^

there is so many traditions in my family when it comes to Christmas, but they are never the same, but bits of piece are the same. but dancing around Christmas tree, singing and running around the house, singing our lungs out. opening the gifts afterwards, being overly tired of Christmas, it shines again. all coming together to share our gifts, wishing and saying thank over and over again. making one of the nicest sleeps. waiting for the new year to start ^-^
