25th Birthday Contest!I'm Turning 25!
In honor of my quarter century (25 years old!) I want you to tell me what you want to accomplish by the time you are 25. If you are already 25, by the time you're 50. Older than 50, 75. Older than 75, 100. Also, if you're older than 75 you have mad props for being here.

The Catch: You can only use 25 words, and I want them to be poetic. You can use whatever format, but you have to use exactly 25 words. And they have to express your wish in a poetic manner.

History enthusiasts - we need you!Now I know this is incredible forward thinking, but we like organisation and we like to get things planned well in advance to make the most of the brains, enthusiasm and community out there. In January, #ArtHistoryProject launches Photography month. If you haven't already seen the happenings over there then do go and take a peek (Digital Month is about to start!) and explore some of the fabulous articles that have been shared already. What we are looking for is anyone who has a topic they can write about, a favourite photographer, a favourite photographic style, techniques, programs and all sorts of other bits that you could put together a nice historical article about. Featuring current works that are a tribute to old styles or long forgotten legends is also encouraged and even interviewing the up and coming community of the photography world now too!

Pick a topic and give us an overview about what you want to write - as much detail as possible!

The Beginning of MangaNarrative in art has been seen for centuries in a wide range of different forms. Now I should start off by saying the 'true origins' of manga is disputed. World War II accelerated the world of comics and manga. However we'll take a look at what has been going on before global conflict changed everything. We'll start with the actual name itself, manga, meaning 'whimsical pictures'. So this is the nature of it, satire, doodles, sketches, exaggeration and humour. The first time this term was used to describe a piece of artwork in Japan was given to Hokusai Manga (first published in 1814). So there is the term itself, but going a bit further back is where it's real history becomes debatable.

Theory 1
Manga started around 12-13th century, the Japanese Fujiwara Period. Animal caricatures known seen on picture scrolls are an early form of narrative. They show mischief and fun doodles, and they are actually an early example of Japanese art that is breaking away from their Chinese

Printing: From the Far East to the Printing PressIllustrations have been hand drawn for many centuries. But as the demand for the distribution of illustration and text increased, people developed printing techniques, and over time this would turn into what we now know as the printing press, the mass production of illustration and text.
Let us take a look at the Far East first, in particular China and Japan where print has been traditionally used as early as the 7th century. The Chinese have been using woodblock printing since the Tang Dynasty (7th Century). This method of printing quickly spread to other East Asian countries, including Japan. The earliest complete survival of a dated printed book is the Diamond Sutra (Buddhist text). This of course ties into one of the most famous Chinese inventions, paper!

And it begins!

Welcome to the first day of the giveaways! I hope that everyone is able to enjoy these tasks, especially since they come with some really awesome prizes!

Today's prize is: a 3 month premium membership.

To kick it off, I want you to do a small bit of writing.

Task 1: Write a holiday themed haiku.

If you are unsure what a haiku is, here is a sample;

Christmas tree shining
Decorations on display
Milk and cookies out

Haiku follows a 5-7-5 format. Five syllables in the first one, seven in the second, and five in the third.

For everyone who completes this task, you will be assigned a number then tomorrow morning you will be put into a random drawing for the three month premium membership.

Winners will be announced tomorrow.
