Manga/Anime Spotlight: defudefu

Manga/Anime Spotlight is a weekly feature that highlights the different artists across the deviantART's Manga/Anime community, and is a portal to get to know a bit more about them and their works.

This week's feature is defudefu

1.) To start off, what is your favorite medium and tools to use?

I like to use water color and pencils. Because it is easy to handle and the result is great!

Although I wish we can have "different layers?while doing the work traditionally ~

Why I like water color?maybe it is because my digital coloring is sucks. Oh well .

2.) When you draw, do you plan everything out first, or do you just see where the drawing takes you?

I let drawing takes me. Because if I plan , it will always end up "fail"(?)

I don't know why . But if I let drawing takes me, it'll always be something more than I expected. So...I prefer to let the drawings to do the "ride"!

3.) On average, how long do you spend on a drawing?

Depends. If it is just a sketch, 5 minutes will be more than enough.

If it is full colored, maybe around 3 hours(traditionally) and if it is done digitally, maybe around 5 hours. (yeah , my digital is awful)

4.) When did you first start drawing, and what made you start to draw in the manga/anime style?

I start drawing when I was 13. That time I was accidentally saw an anime on the TV in the midnight. So I was like get attracted into it. I like the character from the anime and try to draw him. Who knows that hobby can come from an accident, ne?

Plus , after I start to draw, I found out that there are some of my friends who enjoys anime and drawing too. We start to practice together and critique each other artwork. It is such a great fun!

5.) What are your inspirations for drawing?

My inspirations always come from the music that I heard. No joke. Let's say...If I'm listening to the music that is slow and sad, my drawing (the character and the atmosphere) will follow the rhyme of the music. Sad and lonely. But if I'm listening to the rock song , or the love song, the character feelings and the atmosphere also will change.

6.) Do you have any artists that you look up to?

I myself really love to learn and studied the work of Japanese Mangaka such as Kazue Kato, Tite Kubo, Matsuri Hino, Motomi Kyousuke and etc. Because I'm not only learn how to make myself more versatile, but I also learn how to make a good storyline and learn the Japanese culture. It is like kill two birds with one stone.

But I love the works from the great artists here on Deviantart itself, such as Virus-AC, seal-sierra, Jennaris, persona92, mrsloth and a lot more awesome artist! They rock!

7.) Out of the works in your gallery, what are your five favorite pieces?

Actually? I think all of my artwork is still under average ?( But I think this 5 is the best from all of them.

8.) Do you have any tips for young aspiring artists?

I think myself is 1000 years too young to give any advice to any artist. But if someone really wants to improve , all he/she needs is a strong will power and practice. There is no shortcut to become a great artist. We must practice everyday to improve our skills. So don't give up! If there is other people critique your work, make it as an advise for you to be better.

9.) Are there any other types of art that enjoy?

I enjoy sewing and anything that related to craft. But I think my knowledge on that is still too shallow. But I really want to learn it oneday.
