ABC's of Anime Master Article

 Welcome to what the master article for the ABC's of Anime articles that were posted back in May. Since the ABC's were diveded into many different articles, this one has been created to keep all of these in one easy to access place. :) And of course, a few examples from each won't hurt.

Anime: Short for "animation" anime is animations and cartoons that come from Japan. Another term for anime is "Japanimation"

Catgirl/Catboy: A character that has similar features to a cat, such as a tail, ears, and often have personalities like cats. Aside from ears and a tail, these characters have human bodies.

Dojinshi: A fan made manga. Dojinshi's are non-professional pieces that may be self published. Dojinshi can range from any topic, and a lot of them either carry out themes from a series that were not explored a lot, or take a much more adult point of view and contain sexual themes. Make sure you know what you are getting before you purchase a dojinshi.

Eyecatch: A scene or illustration used to begin and end a commercial break in a Japanese TV program, similar to how "bumpers" into/out of commercial breaks are used in the United States.

Japan: A nation that is made up of a chain of islands located in Eastern Asia, and sits in the pacific ocean. The native language to Japan is Japanese, and is reffered to as the "Land of the Rising Sun."

Kogal: Tanned female characters, also known as California Valley Girls.

Lolita: A fashion found aound Japan, Lolita is influenced by Victorian Era clothing that were worn by children. Some of the key elements of lolita fashion are: Knee length skirt, headress, knee length socks, blouse, petticoat and high heeled or platform shoes. The look is to make a person look doll like.

Moe: A Japanese slang word that originally was referring to a specific human trait. More commonly said to describe a cutsey character.

OTP: "One True Pairing" this is when a fan believes that two certain characters from a series belong together no matter what.

RPG: Role playing game. This is where a person pretends to be a character and acts out scenes in a group, either online or real life.

Shouju-ai: Commonly mistaken as yuri, shouju-ai is a casual female relationship within manga and anime. Shouji-ai does not have any sexual themes in it, and is much more innocent than yaoi. Shouju-ai is more of an implication than anything else.

Tsundere:  a character type whose personality is initially combative but eventually becomes loving and emotionally vulnerable.

Visual Kei: An art movement characterized by eccentric looks, involving elaborate costumes and make-up.

Zettai Ryōiki: Meaning "Absolute Territory", this phrase refers to the area of exposed thigh when a girl is wearing a miniskirt and thigh high socks.

:squee: And that's it for the ABC's of Anime, now the series is complete with all of them in one place! Its worth reading through each of these, there are quite a few facts that surprised me back when I was looking for them.
