As part of Project Educate, some questions were put together for some of the wonderful Manga/Anime artists in our community. And so, today I bring you the first of the interviews! :squee:

Today we feature LeiLain

:bulletred:1. To start off, what is your favorite medium and tools to use?

my favourite method is photoshop, or digital, but if i had to choose traditional, it would be pen and ink

:bulletred:2. When you draw, do you plan everything out first, or do you just see where the drawing takes you?

sometimes i plan things out, sometimes i draw randomly, in the end though, to make a final piece, i 90% fix and plan the original sketch out

:bulletred:3. On average, how long do you spend on a drawing?

i draw whenever i can, if i were to work on one piece, that piece in the end would take around 5 hours, when i was younger it would take 10 hours

:bulletred:4. When did you first start drawing, and what made you start to draw in the manga/anime style?

i started drawing since i was possibly 1 year old, but i started draw anime when i was in grade 7. i drew because 2 of my friends showed me animes and how they drew, i got interested even though i originally started off disliking anime/manga style

But after some time has passed drawing turned to great fun. Therefore I was leveling up in manga-drawing very quick. Just always like drawing and would never dislike now.

:bulletred:5. What are your inspirations for drawing?

my inspirations are every day scenes, such as alleyways and flowers, and the colour of the sky, but because i take animation now, my inspiration is also from short films and i look at movies with a more artistic vision

:bulletred:6. Do you have any artists that you look up to?

i was always amazed by miyazaki's movies, but mostly his animation and background artist. studio ghibli is my favourite group of artists and animators

:bulletred:7. Out of the works in your gallery, what are your five favorite pieces?

i don't really have a placement for favourites, the ones i have up are usually the ones that people tend to like most, although i am fond of my characters, so i guess certain pictures with my characters in them are more favourable, but i can't really list a top 5

:bulletred:8. Do you have any tips for young aspiring artists?

practice, use references, draw things you normally don't like to draw so you can get better at them, dont' force yourself if you are having an art block because inspiration will come when it wants to. search online for tutorials or artists you look up to, and have fun.

:bulletred:9. Are there any other types of art that enjoy?

I enjoy all types of moving art, that is why i study animation. a picture is nice and all, but when you can move it, then it has life! i enjoy all styles, from sketchy to abstract

:bulletred:10. Is there anything else that you would like to add?

i get really lazy :) so i procrastinate in drawing (i should be looking at my own advice haha practice practice)

i hope this has been helpful!
